  • Service Broker Performance and Scalability

Late last year I was speaking to one of my internal customers on how they've used Service Broker in one of their high throughput applications and. They weren't too satisfied with the general performance of Service Broker and we ended up discussing a Transactional Replication variant as being one of the most viable options for what they were looking to accomplish.

For them and I'm sure others in the same predicament of wanting to use the agreeable architecture of Service Broker in their high throughput systems, there is now a whitepaper published by the CAT Team on Techniques that can be used to increase the performance and scalability of Service Broker in SQL Server 2008.

Its worth a read, and here's the link to the article on MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd576261.aspx

  • SQL Job postings and Forums

I've heard from a number of Chapter members that they've been laid off through redundancies and so forth, and we took to thinking about how we could help members in their transition period between jobs, and how to make the period as short as possible.

One of the ideas was to use a forums application on the Chapter website to allow members to post their cv's, job wish-lists and skills, and to help any members who need help either with skills, contacts or searches. Recruiters could also use it to post jobs to people who are already focussed on SQL Server and who are motivated enough to be part of a community of DB Professionals...

I'll be launching it soon on the sqlpass.ch website, so let me know if there's anything that we'd really need on it.

  • Policy-Based Management

The are a few features that DBA's have been waiting years for. and there are few things that make a Production DBA's shoulders slump more than the subject of Governance.

Lara Rubbelke has just presented a webcast on Policy-Based Management, which should be saved for viewing on Microsoft.com soon.

This is the link and description of the webcast for your information and benefit.

TechNet Webcast: Governing Your Enterprise with Policy-Based Management (Level 300)
Policy-Based Management is an essential new feature to maintain configuration consistency across large distributed environments, enforce strict regulatory requirements, and manage the complexity of Microsoft SQL Server instances throughout the enterprise. In this webcast, you learn how to centralize business and regulatory compliance reporting by extending Policy-Based Management to all SQL Server instances in your enterprise, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2005, and SQL Server 2000.
